What is a Deadlock?

A deadlock is a mechanical device fitted to a vehicle door. It operates by throwing a bolt into the receiver. It is fitted to the opposing body section when when operated by an external key. These locks are very similar to a deadbolt commonly fitted on front doors on houses. The main purpose of this kind of van lock is to provide extra overnight security or additional security in vulnerable locations. If a burglar is able get past the original lock then they will also need to get past the deadlock system to gain access to the vehicle. Dead locks are under the control of the driver which makes them most suitable for owner-driver situations where the driver can be relied upon to operate the lock.

What is a Slamlock?

A slamlock is a device that automatically locks the vehicle door, immediately as it is shut without requiring any operation by the driver. If a slamlock is fitted, the door of the vehicle automatically locks when it closes. A slamlock is really useful for the multi-drop driver or couriers. The door is unlocked with a key by the driver and then as the driver pushes the door closed it automatically locks behind them. You can also never get locked into the van as the locks can be bypassed from inside the vehicle. This is why the slamlocks are so popular as they are both functional as well as secure.
