Lost Truck Key

Lost the only key and the truck won't start or open? In most cases we can still make a fresh, working key from scratch at the truck, then wipe the lost one from the truck's memory so it can't be used again. No spare needed and no tow to a dealer.

Spare Truck Key

Down to one key is a gamble: if it goes missing, the truck is off the road. We cut and code a spare so you always have a backup, and so a second driver isn't left waiting at the yard. Quick to do while the truck is parked up.

Key Coding & Programming

Cutting the key is only half the job. We match the hidden chip to your exact truck so the engine starts, pair the lock and unlock buttons, and fit a fresh fob battery if the remote has gone dead. Worn or snapped keys replaced too.

Find out more
How truck keys work today

Today's truck keys are matched to the truck.

Truck keys are not what they used to be. On older lorries and pickups the key was a plain piece of cut metal that simply turned the lock and started the engine, so any locksmith with a key machine could copy it. Almost every truck on the road today is different: the key has a tiny chip hidden inside the head that the truck has to recognise before it will start. A key cut at a market stall might open the door, but the engine stays dead until that chip has been matched to your particular truck.

That matching is the part most people get stuck on, and it is the part we do every day. We cut a new key to fit your locks, pair it to your truck so it starts and runs, and pair up the lock and unlock buttons too. If the only key has been lost we can usually make a fresh one from scratch and wipe the missing one from the truck's memory so it can no longer be used. Whether it is a brand-new flip key or an older turn-key, we handle the whole job on site rather than sending you to a dealer.

Trucks

Trucks & artics.

We work on all the heavy lorries and artics you see on Irish roads, from the everyday rigid trucks up to the big sleeper-cab flagships. Whatever the badge, the job is the same: get to the truck, cut a key that fits, and match it to that exact vehicle so it starts. Below are the main makes we cover, with a plain rundown of how each brand's key works and the problems we get called out to.

Truck

DAF

Lost or broken DAF lorry keys cut and started at your truck

Models: DAF XF · DAF CF · DAF LF · DAF XG · DAF XG+

How the DAF key works

Most DAF lorry keys are a chunky black plastic key with a metal blade. On many DAF trucks that blade folds out from the head of the key at the press of a button, like a flick knife. Newer DAFs also have small buttons on the key to lock and unlock the doors from a few steps away. Inside the head of the key there is a tiny chip the truck has to recognise before it will start the engine, so even a perfectly cut copy won't work on its own until that chip has been matched to your truck.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start or open
  • Need a spare so the truck isn't off the road if a key goes missing
  • Key worn down or bent and now it won't turn properly in the ignition
  • Key snapped in the lock or in the door
  • Locked out of the cab

What we do

We come to your truck, whether it's at the roadside, in a yard or at a depot, and cut a brand new DAF key on site. We then match the chip inside it to your truck so the engine will start, and we can wipe a lost or stolen key from the truck's memory so it can't be used again. We also cut and supply spare keys so you're never left with just one, sort flat fob batteries and worn or snapped keys, and get you back on the road the same day in most cases.

Truck

Scania

Lost or broken Scania truck keys cut and set up at your yard or roadside.

Models: R-series · S-series · P-series · G-series · L-series

How the Scania key works

A Scania truck key is usually a black plastic remote fob with the metal key blade folded inside, so it flips out at the press of a button like a flick-knife. The fob has buttons on it for locking and unlocking the cab, and the unfolding blade is what you put in the ignition or door lock. Inside the fob there is a tiny coin-sized battery that powers the buttons, and most keys also have a small hidden chip sealed inside the head that the truck has to recognise before it will start.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck is stuck in the yard or at the roadside
  • Need a spare so the truck is never off the road if a key goes missing
  • The key is worn or bent from years of use and is getting harder to turn
  • Key won't turn in the ignition or the door lock
  • The buttons have stopped working or the fob battery is flat

What we do

We come to you, whether the truck is in a depot, a yard or broken down at the roadside, and sort the key on the spot. We can cut a new Scania key and set it up so the truck recognises it and starts, supply spare keys so you always have a backup, replace a worn or snapped key, and fix or replace a fob with dead buttons or a flat battery. Most jobs are done in one visit so the truck gets back to work the same day.

Truck

Volvo Trucks

Lost or broken Volvo truck key cut and started on site

Models: Volvo FH · Volvo FH16 · Volvo FM · Volvo FMX · Volvo FE

How the Volvo key works

Most Volvo trucks use a chunky plastic key with the Volvo badge on it and small rubber buttons for locking and unlocking the doors. Many of them are flip keys, where the metal blade folds out of the body at the press of a button. You use it the normal way: press the button to lock or unlock, then put the key in the ignition and turn to start. Inside the plastic head there is a tiny chip the truck has to recognise before it will start, so a plain copied key cut at a market stall will open the door but the engine still won't fire.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck is stuck in the yard or at the roadside
  • Need a spare so a second driver isn't left waiting
  • The key is worn or bent and no longer turns smoothly in the lock
  • The key turns but the engine won't start because the truck isn't recognising the chip
  • The remote buttons have stopped locking or unlocking the doors, usually a flat battery in the key

What we do

We come to wherever the truck is, whether that's a depot, a yard, a building site or the side of the road, and sort the key on the spot. We cut a fresh key to fit the locks and program it to your truck so the engine will actually start, even if every key has been lost. We also supply spare keys so you're never down to your last one, fix worn keys that won't turn, and replace dead key batteries. As a single PSA-licensed company working since 2007 with over 300,000 satisfied customers behind us, we get you moving again quickly rather than leaving the truck off the road waiting for a main dealer.

Truck

MAN

Lost or spare MAN truck keys cut and set up at your yard or the roadside.

Models: MAN TGX · MAN TGS · MAN TGM · MAN TGL · MAN TGA

How the MAN key works

Most MAN lorries on Irish roads use a chunky black key that folds out a metal blade, with two or three buttons on the body for locking and unlocking the cab. You press the button to lock or unlock the doors from a few steps away, then slide the same key into the ignition to start the truck. There is a small chip hidden inside the key, and the lorry will only start once it recognises that chip, so a key that hasn't been set up for that particular truck won't get it running.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start or unlock
  • Need a spare key so the lorry isn't off the road if one goes missing
  • The key is worn or bent and is getting harder to turn in the ignition
  • The key turns but the truck won't start because it no longer recognises the chip
  • The buttons on the fob have stopped locking or unlocking the doors (often just a flat battery)

What we do

We come to you, whether the lorry is parked at home, in a yard or stuck at a depot, and cut and set up a working replacement MAN key on the spot, including the hidden chip the truck needs to start. We can supply a spare key so you're never stuck with just one, sort fobs that have stopped locking the cab, and get you moving again even when the only key has been lost. We work on all the common ranges seen here, from the TGL and TGM up to the TGS and TGX flagship.

Truck

Mercedes-Benz Trucks

Lost or broken keys for Mercedes Actros, Arocs and Atego lorries, cut and programmed at your yard.

Models: Actros · Actros L · Arocs · Atego · Antos

How the Mercedes-Benz key works

Most Mercedes-Benz lorries on Irish roads use a black plastic key fob with lock and unlock buttons on it. You press a button to lock or unlock the cab from a few metres away, then put the key into the ignition (or, on the newest trucks, keep it in your pocket) to start the engine. The fob also has a small metal blade that flips or slides out, so you can still open the driver's door by hand if the battery in the fob goes flat.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start
  • Need a spare key so the cab isn't off the road if one goes missing
  • The key is worn or bent and no longer turns smoothly in the lock
  • The fob's lock and unlock buttons have stopped working or the battery has died
  • A key snapped in the ignition or the door lock

What we do

We come to your yard, depot or the roadside and sort it out on the spot. We can cut and program a brand-new key for your Mercedes truck, supply an extra spare so you always have a backup, and replace worn or broken keys. If every key has been lost, we can still make a fresh one that starts the truck, and we tidy up the old keys so a missing one can no longer be used. No need to tow the lorry to a dealer.

Truck

Iveco

New and spare keys for Iveco trucks, cut and ready to drive at your yard or roadside.

Models: Daily · Eurocargo · S-Way · X-Way · T-Way

How the Iveco key works

Most Iveco keys are a black plastic fob with the metal blade folded inside, so it flips out at the push of a button, plus lock and unlock buttons on the body. You use it like any normal key: press the button to lock or unlock the doors, then put the blade in the ignition and turn to start. Newer Iveco keys have a tiny chip sealed inside that the truck must recognise before it will start, even though nothing about that is visible from the outside.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck is stuck where it sits
  • Want a spare so a driver is never stranded if a key goes missing
  • Key worn down from years of use and starting to stick or fail
  • Key won't turn in the ignition or the lock
  • Remote buttons have stopped locking or unlocking the doors

What we do

We come to the yard, depot or roadside and cut a new Iveco key on the spot, then program it to your truck so it starts and works the locks. We can supply a spare so you always have a backup, replace worn or broken keys, sort flat fob batteries, and on lost-key jobs we get you moving again without a tow to a dealer. We carry the right blanks and gear for the Daily, Eurocargo, S-Way and the older Stralis and Trakker, so most jobs are done in one visit.

Truck

Renault Trucks

Lost or spare keys for Renault Trucks lorries, cut and started on site.

Models: Renault Trucks D · Renault Trucks D Wide · Renault Trucks C · Renault Trucks K · Renault Trucks T

How the Renault key works

Most Renault Trucks use a chunky plastic-topped key with a metal blade that folds or slides out, plus buttons on the head to lock and unlock the cab from a distance. Hidden inside the plastic top is a tiny chip the truck has to recognise before it will start - so even if the blade fits the lock, the engine stays off unless the matching key is present. You unlock the doors with the buttons, slot the key into the ignition (or its holder), and turn to start. Some trucks also come with a separate small remote on the keyring for the central locking.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck is stranded in a yard or at the roadside
  • Down to one key and need a spare cut before it goes missing
  • The key blade is worn or bent and no longer turns smoothly in the ignition
  • The lock or ignition has seized and the key won't turn
  • The lock/unlock buttons have stopped working or the fob feels dead

What we do

We come to the truck - depot, yard or roadside - and sort it on the spot. We can cut a fresh key, match its hidden chip to your exact Renault Trucks vehicle so the engine starts, and pair the lock/unlock buttons. Lost every key? In most cases we can still make a working one from scratch without a trip to the main dealer. We also cut handy spares so a missing key never takes a truck off the road, replace worn or snapped keys, and free up seized locks and ignitions.

Pickups & 4×4s

Pickup trucks.

Pickups do the hard yards on farms, sites and yards, and a lost or worn key can stop a working day in its tracks. The keys range from older flip-out blades to the newest smart fobs you keep in your pocket, but every one has a chip the truck must recognise before it will start. Here are the pickups we cut and code most often, with what to expect for each.

Pickup Truck

Ford Ranger

Lost, worn or one-and-only Ranger key replaced where the truck is parked.

Models: Ford Ranger XL · Ford Ranger XLT · Ford Ranger Limited · Ford Ranger Wildtrak · Ford Ranger Raptor

How the Ford Ranger key works

Most Ford Rangers on Irish roads use a black plastic remote with the Ford badge and buttons to lock and unlock the truck. On older models you press a button on the side and a metal blade flips out to turn the door and ignition. The newest Rangers (from 2023) come with a smart key you can keep in your pocket: the truck senses it nearby, so you unlock by touching the door handle and start it with a push button. Whatever the age, every Ranger key has a small chip hidden inside that the truck must recognise before it will start.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start
  • Want a spare cut and coded before the original goes missing
  • The single original key is worn out and getting unreliable
  • Key won't turn in the door or ignition
  • Buttons on the fob have stopped working or the fob battery is dead

What we do

Lock Doctor comes to you, whether the Ranger is at home, in a yard or stuck on site, and cuts and codes a replacement key on the spot so the truck starts and locks again. We can supply a working spare so you are never left with just one key, sort out a fob with worn buttons or a flat battery, and where the only key is lost we can set up a brand new key for the truck. We carry the right keys and gear for both the older Rangers and the newer smart-key models.

Pickup Truck

Toyota Hilux

Lost or worn Hilux key sorted at your yard or the roadside, same day.

Models: Hilux Active (Single Cab, Extra Cab, Double Cab) · Hilux Invincible · Hilux Invincible X · Hilux GR Sport · 2016-2020 Hilux (pre-facelift)

How the Toyota Hilux key works

Most working Hilux pickups in Ireland use a black plastic key with the blade that flips or folds out at the press of a button, and a small set of buttons on the body to lock, unlock and sometimes open the load area. You put the metal blade into the ignition and turn it to start the truck. Higher-spec models (Invincible and up) often have a "smart" fob instead: you keep it in your pocket, the doors unlock when you touch the handle, and you start the engine with a push button on the dash. Inside every Hilux key, smart or not, there is a tiny hidden chip that the truck has to recognise before it will start, so a plain copy that only turns the lock will not get you moving.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start
  • Need a spare so the work van isn't off the road if a key goes missing
  • Key is worn or bent from daily use on site and is getting hard to turn
  • Key won't turn in the ignition or the lock
  • Buttons on the fob have stopped working

What we do

Lock Doctor cuts and programs replacement Hilux keys at the roadside, in your yard or at the depot, so you don't have to tow the truck to a main dealer. We can make a working key even when every key has been lost, supply and set up spare keys, replace worn or snapped keys, sort fobs whose buttons have stopped working and fit fresh fob batteries. We cover both the flip-out blade keys on the work-spec models and the push-button smart keys on Invincible and higher trims, and we get you back on the road the same day in most cases.

Pickup Truck

Isuzu D-Max

Lost, broken or worn Isuzu D-Max keys cut and set up where your truck is.

Models: D-Max Single Cab · D-Max Extended Cab · D-Max Double Cab · D-Max Utility · D-Max Eiger

How the Isuzu D-Max key works

Most D-Max pickups use a black plastic key fob with the Isuzu badge and a row of buttons to lock and unlock the doors from a short distance. Older ones are flip keys: you press a button and a metal blade springs out, which you put in the door lock and the ignition to start up. The newest D-Max (from around 2021) comes with a smart key you can keep in your pocket — the doors unlock as you grab the handle and you start the truck with a push button on the dash. Every one of these keys has a tiny chip sealed inside that the truck has to recognise before it will start, so a plain copied key on its own will not work.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start or open
  • Need a spare key so the family or another driver has a backup
  • The key is worn or bent and is getting harder to turn in the lock
  • The key won't turn in the door or ignition
  • The buttons on the fob have stopped working or the fob battery is dead

What we do

We come to wherever your D-Max is — your home, a yard, a depot or the roadside — and sort the key there. We cut a new key to fit your truck and match it to your D-Max so it starts and runs properly, including the newer push-button smart keys. We can make spare keys so you are never caught out, replace a lost or broken key even when there is no spare left, and fix fobs whose buttons or battery have given up. No need to tow the truck to a dealer.

Pickup Truck

Volkswagen Amarok

Lost or spare Volkswagen Amarok keys cut and programmed at your yard or roadside.

Models: Amarok (first generation, 2010-2020) · Amarok TDI · Amarok V6 TDI · Amarok Life · Amarok Style

How the Volkswagen Amarok key works

Most Amaroks use a flip key: a black plastic VW fob with the metal key blade folded away inside, which pops out at the press of a button. It has buttons on the fob to lock and unlock the truck, and a small chip hidden inside the plastic that the engine has to recognise before it will start. The newest Amaroks (from 2023) tend to come with a slimmer remote fob that does the same job. To start the truck you put the key in and turn it (or, on the latest models, press the start button with the fob in the cab).

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the truck won't start
  • Need a second (spare) key so the only one isn't getting passed around the yard
  • The fob is worn, cracked or the blade has snapped from years of work
  • The buttons on the fob have stopped locking or unlocking the doors
  • The fob battery has gone flat and the doors won't respond

What we do

Lock Doctor cuts and programs a fully working replacement Amarok key on site, whether your truck is at home, on a job, or sitting in a depot or yard. We can get you going again if you've lost your only key, supply spare keys so you're never down to one, replace a worn or cracked fob, and fit a fresh fob battery. We come to you across all 26 counties, so there's no towing the pickup to a dealer and waiting.

Pickup Truck

Mitsubishi L200

Lost, worn or spare Mitsubishi L200 keys cut and started on site.

Models: L200 (2006-2015, fourth generation) · L200 Series 5 (2015-2019) · L200 Series 5 facelift (2019-2021) · Warrior · Barbarian

How the Mitsubishi L200 key works

On older L200s the key is a chunky flip or fixed remote with lock and unlock buttons and a metal blade you still turn in the door and ignition; a small electronic chip is hidden inside the plastic that the truck reads before it will start. On the newer Series 5 (especially Warrior and Barbarian trims) you get a smart fob you can leave in your pocket: the doors unlock when you touch the handle and you start the engine with a button on the dash. The smart fob also has a small metal blade tucked inside it for opening the door by hand if the fob battery ever dies.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and the L200 won't start
  • Need a spare so the truck isn't off the road if a key goes missing
  • Worn or bent blade that no longer turns smoothly in the door or ignition
  • Key turns but the engine won't start because the truck won't read the chip
  • Smart fob battery gone flat so the doors won't unlock or it won't start

What we do

We come to you, at home, in the yard or on the depot, and cut and program a replacement Mitsubishi L200 key or smart fob on the spot, so even if you have lost the only key we can get the truck started and back working the same day. We also supply and program spare keys so you are never left with just one, repair worn or snapped keys, and sort flat fob batteries. We carry the right blanks and kit for both the older button keys and the newer keyless-entry, push-button-start fobs.

Pickup Truck

Nissan Navara

Lost or need a spare Navara key? We cut and program one at your yard.

Models: Navara D40 (2005-2015) · Navara NP300 (2016-2022) · Navara D22 (older, pre-2007)

How the Nissan Navara key works

Most Navaras on Irish roads use a chunky black plastic key fob with the Nissan badge and buttons for lock, unlock and the tailgate. On the older D40 you put the key into the ignition and turn it to start the truck, while the buttons lock and unlock the doors from a few metres away. On the newer NP300 you can leave the fob in your pocket: the doors unlock as you walk up to it, and you start the engine by pressing a start button on the dash with your foot on the brake. There is also a small metal blade that slides or folds out of the fob, so you can still open the door by hand if the fob battery ever goes flat.

Common reasons people call us

  • Lost the only key and can't get into or start the truck
  • Wants a spare so the whole crew isn't relying on one key
  • The key is worn or bent and no longer turns smoothly in the ignition
  • Key turns but the truck won't start
  • The fob buttons have stopped locking or unlocking the doors

What we do

We come to you, whether the Navara is sitting in a yard, a depot or stuck on a job, and cut and program a new key or fob on the spot so the truck is back in use the same visit. We can do this even when every key has been lost, and we also supply handy spares so you are never caught out with just one key. We work on the older D40 turn-key models and the newer NP300 push-button fobs, and we can sort worn keys, dead fob batteries and keys that have stopped turning.

Truck key questions

Questions, answered.

Straight answers to what truck owners and fleet managers ask us most.

Can you make a key if I've lost the only one?

Yes, in most cases. Even with no spare and no working key, we can usually cut a brand-new key at the truck and match it so the engine starts. We'll also wipe the lost key from the truck's memory so it can't be used again.

Do you come to the yard or the roadside?

We come to wherever the truck is sitting, the roadside, your yard, a depot or a building site. There's no need to tow the lorry or pickup anywhere. We do the whole job on the spot.

How long does it take?

Most truck key jobs are finished in a single visit, and we get you back on the road the same day in most cases. A straightforward spare is quick; a full lost-key job takes a little longer because we have to make and match a key from scratch.

Do you cover older lorries and trucks?

Yes. We work on the older plain metal turn-keys as well as the newer flip keys, button fobs and push-button smart keys. We carry blanks and gear for current ranges and the older models, like the earlier MAN TGA or the older Iveco Stralis and Trakker.

What do you need from me?

Just let us know the make, model and year of the truck, where it is, and whether you've still got a working key or none at all. If you bought it used and only got one key, that's fine, we can cut you a spare or replace a missing one.

Do you cover the whole country?

Yes. Lock Doctor is a single company trading since 2007, covering all 26 counties from our own bases. Wherever your truck is in Ireland, we can get a key cut and coded to it.
